EOI - Connected Assessment Ecosystem

⁠⁠⁠Overview

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is seeking a transformative and secure assessment platform that strengthens the Digital Learning Ecosystem (DLE) and enables the UTS Mosaic approach to assessment at scale.

Purpose

The platform is intended to support a more coherent whole-of-course approach to assessment by enabling diverse, authentic and secure assessment practices, and to provide educators and students with better visibility of learning progress and evidence of achievement across the assessment lifecycle, not just at the point of final submission. The intended outcome is a more connected, efficient and sustainable assessment environment that reduces administrative burden while supporting high-quality learning, teaching and governance.

UTS intends to approach any prospective solution(s) as a cohesive and connected part of the broader DLE, which may replace one or more disparate products within its digital assessment and learning tools. These solutions are to support the UTS Mosaic approach to assessment integrity, a whole-of-course framework that builds confidence in student achievement through a combination of secure milestone assessments, formative learning activities (including ethical and critical engagement with GenAI), and constructive dialogue with students. This approach is designed to assure student learning against key learning outcomes while also supporting sustainable, equitable and authentic assessment practices across the curriculum.

Objectives

• Improve student experience, academic integrity and assurance of learning
• Provide educators and students with better visibility of learning progress and evidence of achievement across the assessment lifecycle

Scope

Prospective solutions should provide the capability for one or more of the following:

• Enable secure digital assessment formats at scale that support whole-of-course assessment models and workflows, which may include identity verification and could include support for, or provision of, AI or human remote invigilation, or lockdown browser capability. Secure assessment reflects the UTS definition of security, which covers invigilation, interaction, observation and supervision, described in section 2.3
• Provide scalable peer, group and self-assessment tools that support evaluative judgement and formative feedback
• Enable asynchronous and/or synchronous oral assessments and scheduling, allowing scaffolded workflows into assessment where students can respond orally to prompts in a time bound manner
• Provide evidence of student process of learning, progress and development over time
