Expressions of Interest - Development of Tetley's Quarry Mountain Bike Park

Hauraki District Council is inviting Expressions of Interest from individuals, community groups, investors, recreation organisations, and commercial operators interested in developing and operating a self-funded mountain bike park on a 130-hectare retired quarry site.

About

The site has been earmarked to undergo significant remediation, as metal extraction and forestry activities on the property have been exhausted. Remediation of the site is expected to be undertaken over the next 24 months, during which the site will be rezoned as recreational reserve land under the Reserves Act. This will allow an extensive array of activities.

The 130-hectare retired quarry presents a diverse landscape with varied topography, elevation changes, and existing quarry features that may be suitable for a range of mountain biking experiences. The site's size and terrain provide flexibility for staged development and the potential to establish a unique recreational destination within the Waikato region.

Scope

The scope includes development and operation of a self-funded mountain bike park incorporating the following potential experiences:

• Cross-country trails
• Downhill and gravity trails
• Enduro riding
• Skills and training areas
• Family-friendly recreational tracks
• Associated outdoor recreation opportunities

Location

The property is located just south of Waitakaruru on the western edge of the Hauraki Plains, Waikato, New Zealand, with access from a local road just off State Highway 2.
