Embedding First Nations Culture in SLA Public Realm Projects

⁠⁠⁠The Suburban Land Agency is looking to engage a Supplier to facilitate culturally safe and respectful collaborations and engagement activities between local First Nations communities, artists and local industry resulting in creative outcomes, including artworks and deliverables that embed, acknowledge and respect First Nations culture, creativity, story and language relevant to land development activities.

The Supplier will be responsible for the delivery of site appropriate concepts and designs to enable fabrication and installation with local suppliers and First Nations creatives.

Scope:

• The Supplier is required to act as a trusted cultural delivery partner, supporting appropriate, consistent, diverse, inclusive and respectful engagement with First Nations communities.
• This will include delivery of meaningful cultural engagement activities that connect a diverse range of First Nations artists, Elders and Knowledge Holders with public realm opportunities, experienced and emerging artists and potential fabricators. The results of which should include but are not limited to concepts, designs, employment opportunities, actual installations, language advice, story and knowledge sharing.
• The Supplier is required to support First Nations artists to develop concept ideas into feasible designs suited to site conditions, scale, budget, public use, safety and maintenance.
• The Supplier is required to support the planning of fabrication and installation of works in line with ACT Government standards.
• The Supplier is required to deliver capacity‑building initiatives that strengthen First Nations creatives and artist and practitioner capability through mentorships and skills development. 
• The Supplier is required to embed authentic First Nations culture, storytelling and co design principles across SLA projects, supported by appropriate cultural governance structures and safe, genuine engagement practices.
• The Supplier must also support clear and respectful communication of cultural narratives, ensuring Cultural protocol has been followed.
• The Supplier must ensure cultural integrity is upheld through listening led practices and clear feedback loops with Elders, Knowledge Holders and communities.
