Request for Tender Bridge Street Bethanga Pedestrian Bridge Design and Construct

⁠⁠⁠Towong Shire Council (TSC) is seeking suitably qualified contractors to tender for the design and construction of a new pedestrian bridge adjacent to Bridge St in Bethanga over Bethanga Creek.

Bridge St in Bethanga is a narrow, two-way road over Bethanga Ck and is currently the only way for pedestrians (including school children) to move between the zone around the general store and bus stop through to Bethanga Bay Rd and the local pub. Council has received funding to address this pedestrian safety issue.

The project involves the design and construction of a new single-span pedestrian and cyclist bridge crossing an existing waterway adjacent to the Bethanga Road / Talgarno Road intersection. The bridge, to be located on the downstream (western) side of the existing culvert will allow users to avoid the road by crossing on a new pedestrian bridge adjacent to the existing road and provide a safe, accessible alternative for pedestrians and cyclists between the existing footpath network on both sides of the waterway.

The new structure will improve pedestrian safety along Bridge Street and align with established road safety design principles and safety treatments such as VicRoads Safe System Assessment Guidelines and the Austroads Safe System Assessment Framework.
