Tender Description

Tenders are invited for the construction of the Dobroyd Parade Pedestrian Bridge, including associated utilities works, with optional additional pedestrian bridge works at Hurstville.

Project goals

  • Provide safe, accessible and continuous pedestrian connectivity across major transport corridors at Dobroyd Parade and Hurstville, improving access to public transport, local centres and surrounding neighbourhoods.
  • Improve pedestrian safety and amenity by removing at‑grade crossings of busy road and rail infrastructure, reducing conflict between pedestrians, vehicles and freight traffic.
  • Support the efficient operation of the surrounding road network, including key arterial and freight routes, by separating pedestrian movements from traffic and minimising disruptions to vehicle flows.
  • Ensure the bridge infrastructure supports emergency services and network resilience, including provision for safe access, maintenance and incident response where required.
  • Deliver inclusive infrastructure that meets accessibility requirements, accommodating people of all abilities, including cyclists walking bikes, prams, and mobility‑impaired users.
  • Align with local and state transport planning objectives, including active transport strategies, road safety initiatives and broader urban connectivity outcomes.
  • Reduce the risk of crashes and serious injuries involving pedestrians in line with Transport for NSW road safety priorities and Safe Systems principles.
  • Integrate sensitively with the surrounding urban environment, responding to local context, community expectations, and environmental considerations.

Scope

Transport for NSW proposes to deliver a new pedestrian bridge across Dobroyd Parade at Waratah Street, Haberfield, within the Inner West Local Government Area (LGA). The project also includes provision for an optional pedestrian bridge at Hurstville.

Dobroyd Parade Pedestrian Bridge (Base Scope)

The scope of works includes construction of a single‑span steel pedestrian bridge spanning Dobroyd Parade, with compliant, inclusive access provided via lifts and stairways at both ends. Works include bridge foundations, substructure and superstructure; installation of safety screens, handrails and architectural elements; and erection of the bridge during planned road closures.

The project also includes relocation and protection of public utilities; electrical, communications, lighting and CCTV installations; civil works including footpaths, drainage, kerbs and fencing; traffic management during construction; landscaping and reinstatement works; and preparation of as‑built and asset documentation.

Optional Scope – Hurstville Pedestrian Bridge

Subject to approval, the optional scope includes utilities early works and construction of a pedestrian bridge at Hurstville to the same specification and technical standard as the Dobroyd Parade bridge, including associated civil, electrical, traffic and landscaping works.
