Tender Description

The Contract is for the provision of a fit for purpose temporary access solution (herein collectively referred to as the “access solution”) to allow Transport for NSW (TfNSW) personnel to perform surface preparation and painting works to areas of the Sydney Harbour Bridge (SHB). This contract includes the design, installation, certification and removal of an access solution.

The primary work areas are the straight, or perpendicular, lateral members of the main arch structure that extend between the between eastern and western chords members (herein collectively referred to as the “laterals”). The package of works under this contract will provide access to laterals on the northern half of the arch structure. Figure 1 below displays the SHB elevation and top chord plan views.

The scope of works includes a total of 8 laterals along the top chord that require access solutions. Works shall commence at lateral NE7 (see figure 1 – in green). The Contractor is to select any 8 additional laterals (in consultation with TfNSW) (see figure 1 – in red) along the northern and southern half of the arch structure for inclusion in the scope. Upon the successful implementation of the access solution, there may be a provision for additional lateral positions beyond the initial 8 agreed laterals.

For each individual lateral, the access solution should allow for the installation to cover the entire length of the chord, extending from the eastern chord of the bridge to the western end. In addition to the length of the straight lateral, the access solution shall also provide access into the three plated box sections that connect to the chord members, one box section forms part of the straight lateral with the adjacent box section either side forming part of the adjacent cross-laterals.

The intent to install the access solutions will be to provide a rolling installation program, where typically 3 – 4 lateral locations are provided at the one time for painting works, with an additional 3 – 4 locations in the process of installation and/or demobilisation from alternative laterals. The total number of installed access solutions on the laterals may vary at any one time may and should be agreed by the contractor and TfNSW during the ongoing works program planning. Following completion of painting works, the access solutions will be demobilised from the installed location. It is anticipated that each of these works locations will be completed within a workable hire period of 10 weeks per work location.

The Contractor is encouraged to determine the most cost-effective program of installation and available laterals ensuring generally no less than three laterals are available for access.
