NSW RFS is seeking information from industry to inform the future development, specification, and procurement of firefighting foams, chemicals and applications.
Project goals
The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) is seeking information from industry to identify innovative, effective, and environmentally responsible suppression technologies. Understand application methods across aerial and ground-based operations. Assess logistical requirements (mixing, storage, transport, shelf-life). Evaluate environmental impacts, particularly within sensitive ecosystems and waterways. To inform the future development, specification, and procurement of:
- Firefighting foams (Class A & Class B)
- Fire suppression gels and water-enhancing agents
- Long-term and short-term fire retardants
- Encapsulating agents and advanced suppression chemicals
- Thermal runaway suppression systems (including lithium-ion battery fire solutions)
This RFI is issued to:
- Inform functional specifications and procurement planning.
- Enable early market engagement and innovation identification.
- Ensure alignment with NSW Government procurement principles.
- Support development of a fair, open, and competitive tender process.
- This is not a request for tender.
Scope
NSW RFS is seeking information on:
- Class A foams (wildland firefighting).
- Class B foams (flammable liquid fires).
- Fire suppression gels and water enhancers.
- Long-term retardants (aerial and ground application).
- Encapsulating agents and advanced suppression chemicals.
- Thermal runaway suppression systems (e.g. lithium-ion battery fires).
