Tender Description

The Town of Gawler is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for appointment as two Independent Members of its Audit & Risk Committee. In addition, as the term of the current Presiding Member (Chairperson) is due to expire, the Council may also consider applicants from this process for appointment as Presiding Member.

Established in 1839, Gawler is South Australia’s first country town and one of the State’s most significant historic regional centres. Located 42 kilometres north of the Adelaide CBD, Gawler is a distinctive and growing community with a strong focus on good governance, accountability and sustainable service delivery.

The Audit & Risk Committee plays an important role in supporting the Council’s oversight of governance, risk management, internal controls, financial reporting and organisational accountability. Independent Members contribute expert advice and independent judgement to support the effective operation of the Committee in accordance with its Terms of Reference.

The Council is seeking applicants with skills, knowledge and experience in areas such as:

  •  Governance.
  •  Risk management.
  •  Internal or external audit.
  •  Financial reporting and accounting.
  •  Internal controls.
  •  Compliance.
  •  Organisational oversight.

Applicants should demonstrate:

  •  Sound understanding of good governance, accountability and oversight.
  •  Knowledge of risk management and audit principles.
  •  The ability to exercise independent judgement and provide constructive challenge.
  •  A professional and ethical approach to the exercise of duties.
  •  Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Previous experience on an audit, risk or similar governance committee will be highly regarded.

Appointments will be for an initial term of up to four years. The Committee meets approximately five times per year. A sitting fee will be paid for meeting preparation and attendance.
