Tender Description

Queensland Rail is inviting open tenders for the delivery of Kuranda Range Slope Stabilisation Stage 2 works along the Cairns to Kuranda rail corridor. The Works involve slope remediation and rockfall risk mitigation across eight high risk sites within a steep, remote and operational rail corridor in the Wet Tropics World Heritage area. The scope includes rock slope stabilisation and rockfall protection works such as scaling and controlled rock breaking, installation of rock bolts and anchors, draped mesh and catch fence systems, vegetation management, and all associated access, logistics, safety, environmental and cultural heritage management required to deliver the Works under live rail conditions. Many work areas require specialist rope access techniques and constrained access planning.

Expected timing

Construction is planned to commence from April 2027 (subject to contract award and mobilisation approvals), with delivery staged across multiple sites and programmed around rail access windows and seasonal weather conditions.

Location and delivery

Services will be delivered on site along the Kuranda Range corridor between Cairns and Kuranda, with the eight work sites located within the rail corridor and adjacent slopes. Services cannot be delivered remotely due to corridor access, rail safety and site conditions.

Important tender information

A mandatory tender site visit will be conducted. Site visits are scheduled for Tuesday 7 April, Wednesday 8 April, Thursday 9 April or Friday 10 April, commencing at 9:45 am AEST from Redlynch Queensland Rail Depot. Attendance is limited to one representative per tender submission and may only be attended by the primary tendering entity (no subcontractors). The visit will include stops at all eight sites, noting that many locations cannot be physically accessed or viewed at close range during the site visit due to terrain and rail operational constraints.
