Request For Information - Traffic Signal Mast Arm Structure
Tender ID: 608820
Tender Details
Tender Description
RFI for manufacturer insights into the constraints, limitations and previous experience surrounding traffic signal mast arms.
RFI Conditions
This RFI is not a tender process and does not constitute an offer or invitation to treat.
Main Roads encourages participation, acknowledging that participation is voluntary and non-binding. Respondents may choose to answer all or some of the questions. Please note this process is independent from any subsequent procurement process and your participation or otherwise will have no bearing on any future procurement processes.
Scope:
Main Roads is undertaking a review and update of the existing specifications and standard drawings for traffic signal infrastructure and one of the focused areas is on mast arm structures, to meet the needs of all regions in Western Australia and also to provide a longer outreach option as opposed to only the 5.5 m. As part of this initiative, Main Roads is seeking to better understand the range of design, engineering, and construction solutions and constraints currently existing within the market.
To support this work, Main Roads seeks industry engagement to fair and equally consider all inputs. Through this Request for Information (RFI), Main Roads aims to gather insights into the capabilities, supply chain, system limitations, and manufacturing processes and constraints of suppliers and fabricators who design and construct mast arm structures. The information collected will help identify feasible design approaches, material options, fabrication methods, and any emerging technologies or innovations relevant to these structures.
System Limitations
Main Roads seeks information on any system-level limitations that may influence the performance, integration, or long term operation of mast arm structures. Respondents are invited to provide details on factors that may restrict how these structures can be designed, installed, maintained, or interfaced with other components within a traffic signal system. Relevant system considerations may include:
• Structural limitations affecting the integration of signal heads, signs, CCTV, sensors, or communication equipment
• Load capacity constraints relating to wind loading, dynamic loading, cyclic fatigue, or equipment mass
• Limitations on cable management, internal routing, access points, or maintenance accessibility
• Constraints associated with mounting brackets, modularity, or compatibility with existing Main Roads standard components
• Limitations in applying monitoring systems or emerging technologies
• Any system-level risks that may impact safety, durability, or operational reliability
