Adelaide PHN has engaged Anglicare Sydney to deliver a free, evidence-based Suicide Prevention for Seniors Training Program.
This practical workshop is designed for anyone who supports older adults, whether in a professional, volunteer or family role.
Older people can face unique risk factors for suicide, including social isolation, physical illness, grief, and life transitions. This training will help you feel confident and equipped to recognise the signs of distress early and respond with care.
About the Training
Delivered by Anglicare Sydney, the Suicide Prevention for Seniors Program is grounded in evidence and QIP accredited with Suicide Prevention Australia. Across this 3-hour session, you will learn how to:
- Have a supportive, empathetic conversation with older adults
- Identify the warning signs and understand factors which can influence suicidal thoughts later in life
- Ask directly and safely about suicide
- Determine immediate safety needs
- Create a safety plan and provide appropriate referral pathways
- Understand risk and protective factors unique to older people
Participants can self-direct CPD points and a certificate of completion will be provided.
Who should attend?
This training is ideal for anyone working closely with older people, including aged care workers and home support staff, retirement living staff, allied health professionals, community workers, pharmacists, medical centre staff, volunteers and concerned family members or friends.
