Expressions of interest open for library kiosk pilot

Mount Barker Community Library is committed to delivering accessible, inclusive and responsive library services across the district. We support our community to read, listen, learn and connect through free access to books, audiobooks, digital resources and lifelong learning opportunities. To enhance access to library services, we are inviting Expressions of Interest from businesses or organisations interested in hosting a Library Kiosk Pick-Up and Return location in one of our townships as part of a 12-month pilot program.

About the Library Kiosk

The kiosk will include:

• A free standing shelving unit
• Visible signage promoting the service
• Regular delivery and collection of library materials (frequency to be confirmed)

Customers will be able to:

• Collect reserved library items
• Return borrowed materials
• Receive automatic notifications when items are ready for collection

Benefits to the Host Business / Organisation

The pilot is expected to provide:

• Increased foot traffic
• Enhanced visibility within the community
• Ongoing promotion through:
• Library website
• Online newsletters
• Social media
• Other library marketing materials

Host Location Requirements

The host business or organisation will need to provide:

• Adequate floor space for shelving unit approximately 800mm (W) x 1500mm (H) x 300mm (D)
• Safe and accessible public access during business hours
• Space for promotional signage (e.g. window signage, A-frame or similar visible display)

What Council will Provide

Mount Barker District Council will provide:

• All shelving and library equipment
• Signage and promotional materials
• Installation and associated setup costs
• Ongoing stock delivery and management

Pilot Period

The pilot program will operate for 12 months and likely to start mid-2026. An evaluation will be undertaken at the end of the pilot to assess its effectiveness and determine future viability and potential expansion.
