Hatea Dredge 2026

Northland Regional Council is re-tendering for the annual dredging contract for the Hatea River.

This project aims to protect the economic viability of the waterfront business’ operating on the Hatea river, which connects the Whangarei harbour to Whangarei town centre.

The areas concerned are marked navigational channel from beacon K20 to the canopy bridge above the town basin.

Annual budget is approximately $80,000 to $100,000, depending on other costs such as dredge spoils management. Dredge quantities may vary from year to year

This RFP relates to the purchase of contract dredge services. The dredge areas are specified in the regional council held consent for the Hatea River. Specific dredge areas will be specified each year by the harbourmaster, along with funds available that year from the Hatea dredging fund. The key outcome that we want to achieve are to reach and maintain the depths specified in the consent.
