Farms of the Future Agtech Advisor Needs & Capacity Review

Project goals

Goals:

1. Determine the current and emerging needs of agricultural advisors across key sectors, including digital, data, technical and advisory skill requirements.
2. Assess advisor readiness to engage with Agtech, including digital and data literacy, confidence using and recommending Agtech tools and ability to troubleshoot common technologies.
3. Understand behavioural, trust building and client facing factors that influence effective Agtech advisory, including clear insight into farmer expectations of advisors.
4. Generate actionable guidance for future program design, including advisor personas, learning journeys and a prioritised and validated initiative roadmap.

The project is expected to include the following components:

1. Consultation with advisor sector
2. Advisor agtech capability and readiness assessment
3. Systems, tools and ecosystem review
4. Advisor personas, learning journey and initiative roadmap development
5. Initiative validation

Milestones and expected timing.

• M1: Project plan (Month 1): project plan, initial stakeholder list, survey and interview questions.
• M2: Advisor engagement and consultation (Months 2 to 4): completed surveys, interview notes, focus group summaries and workshop notes.
• M3: Advisor capability and ecosystem assessment (Months 3 to 5): digital and data literacy analysis, technical readiness assessment, advisory skills development needs, inventory of current training and support tools and gap analysis.
• M4: Advisor profiles and sector needs (Months 5 to 6): advisor personas, learning journey maps and sector specific needs summary.
• M5: Initiative ideas and roadmap (Months 5 to 6): recommended initiatives, prioritised roadmap, evaluation framework and validation if proposed.
• M6: Final report and advisor directory (Month 6): final project report, contact list of NSW advisors, handover materials and final presentation.
