Waterways Western Australia is a new initiative situated within the School of Social Science’s Future Regions Lab at the University of Western Australia, and supported by the Feilman Foundation.

WAterways aims to create a legacy of thriving waterways for future generations by bringing communities together to address key water management issues. Its mission is to connect communities and waterways to enhance their mutual long-term health and wellbeing through a shared journey of projects designed to increase knowledge, collaboration, and commitment to a sustainable future. To learn more, please visit WAterways Western Australia.

We’re calling for EOIs!

We invite interested volunteer groups to complete and submit a short Expression of Interest (EOI) for this grant opportunity. See the eligibility criteria below, and throw your hat in the ring – we can’t wait to hear your ideas!

Eligible Groups:

  • Must be an incorporated not-for-profit group or organisation (or under the auspice of one)
  • Based in the Peel-Harvey Catchment (or regularly undertake activities within the area)

Eligible Projects:

  • Must occur within the Peel-Harvey Catchment area over 10 to 12-months

Concurrent grant initiative + research study: As part of the WAterways program, we’re running a project grant initiative alongside a research study on the value and impact of volunteering in the PHC.

What’s involved in the research (voluntary):

Four short online surveys over your 10-12‑month project period, and up to two face‑to‑face interviews with group members (for funded projects).

Open to all: The four online surveys are open to any volunteer group, whether or not you receive a grant.

We’ll provide participant information and consent forms before confirming your involvement.

To thank you for sharing your insight with us, each time you complete a survey you will go in the draw to win a $50 gift card!

Two‑stage application process: EOIs will be assessed and shortlisted. Shortlisted groups will be invited to submit a full Grant Application, which will be assessed by an Independent Advisory Panel (IAP) who will recommend projects for funding.

How to apply: Complete Page 2 (EOI Form) and email to Miss Anna Costello at anna.costello@uwa.edu.au

EOI submissions close: Friday, 13th February 2026 at 5:00pm (AWST)

If you would like to discuss any aspects of this study please feel free to contact Professor Kirsten Martinus by email at kirsten.martinus@uwa.edu.au, or Miss Anna Costello at anna.costello@uwa.edu.au.
