The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Emerging Priorities and Consumer-Driven Research initiative aims to enable or support research that improves patient care and translation of new discoveries, and encourage collaboration between consumers and researchers. Funding from this Initiative will support the development of new diagnoses, treatments and cures, and the translation of new discoveries into clinical practice.
Three topics of funding are available based on the primary focus of the research or the geographic location of the organisation undertaking the majority of the research. The objective of this grant opportunity is to:
Topic A (Aim 2 of Research Plan; TCR): improving the mental health of First Nations children through research led by First Nations researchers that includes meaningful involvement of First Nations communities.
Topic B (Aim 2 of Research Plan; TCR): the organisation undertaking the majority of the research is based in any area according to the Modified Monash Model locator (MM1–7).
Topic C (Aim 2 of Research Plan; TCR): the organisation undertaking the majority of the research, the Chief Investigator A and 50% or more of all Chief Investigators, and all research participants are primarily based in a regional, rural or remote area according to the Modified Monash Model locator (MM2–7).
Applicants to this grant opportunity must propose research that addresses one of the three Topics of research. An application may only be submitted to one of the above three Topics. Applicants must specify the Topic to which they are applying in their application.
This grant opportunity is being administered by NHMRC on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

Applications will only be accepted from approved MRFF Eligible Organisations. A list of approved MRFF Eligible Organisations is available from the MRFF Eligible Organisations List on the NHMRC website.
Applications must satisfy all the requirements set out in the Medical Research Future Fund – Emerging Priorities and Consumer Driven Research Initiative - 2025 Childhood Mental Health Research Grant Opportunity Guidelines.
Grant Activity Timeframe:
Within 5 years of execution of the grant schedule.

Instructions for Application Submission:
Applicants are advised to read the Grant Guidelines thoroughly and liaise with the MRFF Eligible Organisation that will submit the application to identify any specific requirements that the Organisation might have.
Applications must be submitted electronically using NHMRC’s online granting system (Sapphire).

Minimum Data closes at 5:00pm (ACT Local Time) on 25 February 2026
Questions should be submitted no later than 1:00pm (ACT Local Time) on 18 March 2026.
