Draft Circular Head Settlement Strategy – Community Consultation

⁠⁠⁠The Circular Head Council is preparing its very first settlement strategy and is inviting community feedback to assist in shaping a prosperous and sustainable future for Circular Head. The aim is to balance the need for housing and sustainable growth of our settlements with the need to protect rural areas and the natural environment.

The draft settlement strategy includes a final report, land demand and natural hazard assessment, and a supporting report. It provides projections on growth scenarios, focuses on how the community can grow while retaining the things we love and will identify the best locations for further housing, business, commercial and light industrial development. It will also consider land constraints or hazards such as flood inundation, important environmental values as well as protecting agricultural land. Important issues like servicing a township with water, sewer and stormwater and other infrastructure will also be considered to ensure our communities are sustainable.

The draft settlement strategy recommends actions in the following areas: Residential, Non-residential, Specialist studies, and Partnerships. The community consultation aims to collect thoughts and ideas to assist with further development of the strategy.

The draft Circular Head Settlement Strategy may be viewed during office hours at the Council Office, 33 Goldie St, Smithton or on the Council’s website at www.circularhead.tas.gov.au/publicnotices

Council invites members of the community to provide feedback in writing until the close of business Friday, 1 March 2023 by emailing council@circularhead.tas.gov.au or by post to Circular Head Council, PO Box 348, Smithton TAS 7330.

At the conclusion of the consultation period, the strategy will be revised to consider community feedback and tabled to the earliest Ordinary Council Meeting for endorsement.
